Bulldogs Bite Hornets On a cold September night in Heath at Swank Field, the Bulldogs of Heath were facing the undefeated Hornets of Licking Heights. The game started on a downer for the visting Hornets as super running back Eddie Pennington (sr 5'10" 220) would be out with a injury. Midway thourgh the 1st quater the Bulldogs would go for a 4th and 1. The Hornets' line would stop senior Matt Hatfield (5'9" 195) for no gain and the offense would come onto the field. Wasting no time getting on the board, Justin O'Cain (so 6'1" 160) would bust off a nice 61 yard run to paydirt and senior Toby Rollenhagen (5'11" 150) would add the point after for a 7-0 Hornet lead with 6:15 left in the quarter. With 3:25 left in the first, Hatfield would fumble the ball on a bad pitch from quarterback Adam Leogrande (sr 6'0" 190). The Hornets again would waste little time in getting to the endzone as Bill Pack (sr 5'5" 160) would go around the right side and race 80 yards for a score and with 1:59 left in the first, the Hornets were up 14-0. Heath would get the offense going but not until a 32 yard run by Hatfield would be called back because of a holding penalty. On the next play, Leogrande would hit Hatfield for a 60 yard completion making it 1st and goal at the 1, as the 1st quarter came to an end. On the 1st play in the 2nd quarter, Hatfield would plow in from 1 yard out and with no kicking game, the Bulldogs were forced to go for 2 and it was no good leaving the score 14-6 hornets with 11:58 left in the half. Chris Wooddruff (sr 6'0" 165) would get his second pick of the game, the 1st on the 2 point try after the Heath score, with 2:09 left in the half. Niether team would be able to get the offense going and the half would come to a end with the Bulldogs trailing 14-6. Heath would start the 2nd half with a 70 yard drive ending with a 29 yard run by Hatfield. The 2 point conversion was good and with 9:58 left in the 3rd it was all tied at 14. Heath was driving with 7:09 left in the 3rd, but another Hatfield fumble ended any hopes of another score in the period and after the end of 3 quarters, the game was still tied at 14. Heath would put togather a 79 yard drive, mostly with the run, and with 10:28 left in the game Ryan Kelley (jr 6'0" 165 rb/fb) would hit paydirt from 4 yards out and again, because of no kicking game, the bulldogs would go for 2 and get it for a 22-14 lead. After a Hornet fumble, the Dogs would close out the scoring with a 16 yard touchdown pass from Leogrande to Justin Bending (6'4"160 wr). Another 2 point conversion and the final would be 30-14 bulldogs.
