GREEN HOLDS ON TO TOP DOVER Plagued by costly turnovers and penalties, the Dover Tornadoes dropped a tough 7-6 defensive battle to the visiting Green Bulldogs on Friday night. Green senior running back Brandon Oing broke free for a 41-yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs on top 6-0 with 4:33 remaining in the second quarter. Andrew Wellock then added what would be the game winning extra point. At the 7:15 mark in the fourth quarter, Bobby Diehl dove in to the end zone from a yard out to put the Tornadoes on the board; however, a high snap from center spoiled the point after attempt. The touchdown was setup by a Russell Lloyd interception. The Tornadoes turned the ball over four times on the night, twice in the air and twice on the ground, all coming in key situations. Dover was also penalized nine times for 65 yards. "Conversely, the offense is arguably the worst offense that we've had since I've been here," committed Dover coach Dan Ifft. "When we get something going we turn it right back with turnovers and penalties." Dover finished the game with just 189 yards of total offense. Quarterback David Rennicker completed 9 of 20 passes for 78 yards. Ashley Smith lead Dover with 39 yards on 10 carries while Diehl added 29 yards on nine carries and Ryan Braglin 21 yards on three carries. Dover drops to 1-2 on the season while Green improves to 2-1. comalog Article courtesy of dhstornadoes.com |
