DOVER OFFENSE ENERGIZES IN SECOND HALF FOR WIN Trailing 7-6 at half time, the Dover Tornadoes offense broke out to scored 19 unanswered points while the defense limited the visiting Lake Bluestreaks to just nine yards of offense in the third quarter to pick up a convincing 25-14 win on Friday night. After both teams traded quick possessions, the Tornadoes put together a swift 70 yard scoring drive capped off by a five-yard run by Luke Patrino to put Dover up 6-0. Justin Perkowski's point after attempt failed. The Bluestreaks Dan Beachy ran a yard to paydirt to knot the game up and Boyd Bills gave Lake a 7-6 leave with his point after kick. Lake took the slim lead into the locker. "We shot ourselves in the foot in the first half and at halftime we just talked about what we had open inthe first half and what we could do against their defense," Dover quarterback David Rennicker said. The Tornadoes promptly discovered those openings. On the first possession of the second half, Dover went on a 10 play, 75-yard drive finished by an eight-yard pass from David Rennicker to Luke Patrino. The Tornado's conversion pass failed to give Dover a 12-7 advantage. Shutting down the Lake offense, Dover would score on an eight-yard pass from Rennicker to Ryan Braglin to give the Tornadoes some breathing room at 18-7. With just over four minutes left in the contest, Rennicker would ice the game by scoring on a keeper from four yards out. Perkowski's kick made it 25-7. The Bluestreaks would tack on a late score after a 77-yard drive. Outside that final drive, the Lake offense gained 23 yards in the second half. After completing just one of four passes in the first half, Rennicker finished 10-of-18 with 126 yards and in the second half hit Ryan Braglin three times for 31 yards in the second half and rushed for 34 yards. Junior Ashley Smith accumulated 111 yards on the ground on 14 carries. Patrino added 38 yards on 10 rushes and 64 yards in the air. "We sure needed this one, though. It was a win over a quality opponent who plays in a big, physical league and we didn't let down at all," commented Dover coach Dan Ifft. After playing for non league opponents, the Tornadoes close out the season with an all East Central Ohio League schedule beginning at Coshocton. comalog Article courtesy of dhstornadoes.com |
