DOVER GETS BIG LEAGUE WIN OVER BRAVES After a tight first half of play, Dover's offense broke loose to pill up 27 points of second half offense and give the Tornadoes a 34-10 win over East Central Ohio League foe Indian Valley on Friday night before a standing room only crowd at Kelley's Field in Midvale. With the win, the Tornadoes improve to 5-0 in the ECOL and 7-2 on the season. Dover clinched at least a tie for the league title and can win the title out right with a victory over rival New Philadelphia. The Braves drop to 3-2 in the ECOL and 6-3 on the campaign. Indian Valley started the scoring with an impressive 14 play, 79-yard drive capped by quarterback J.P. Brown scoring from a yard out. Judd Edwards added the point after to give the Braves an early 7-0. After driving the ball to the 13-yardline on their first possession, the Tornadoes were denied a touchdown. The Braves had a short drive but were forced to punt and were given the ball back thanks to a roughing the kicker penalty. The Dover defense did their job and force the Braves to punt again. "We dodged a bullet there." said Dover coach Dan Ifft. "It was a good job by our defense to hold them." Starting at their own 47, Dover put together an eight play touchdown drive capped off by Luke Patrino finding the end zone an a six yard scramble. Todd Lisowski's point after was good making it seven all with 6:48 left in the half. On their second possession of the third quarter, Patrino busted free for a 22 yard gain putting the Tornadoes on 24-yardline. But penalties for clipping and holding would setup a third and 21 situation for Dover. Rennicker found Justin Norris on the nine yard line to give the Tornadoes a first down. Two plays later, Patrino went one yard to paydirt and gave Dover the lead for good at 13-7. Dover once again stuffed the Indian Valley offense to give the Tornado offense key field position. Matt McKenzie busted the game up with a 39 yard touchdown run up the middle that came on a first-and-14 play. Dover attempted the two point conversion but fell short making the score 19-7 late in the third quarter. The Braves answered on their next possession with Edwards booting a 31-yard field goal to pull the Braves within nine at 19-10 two minutes into the final quarter. Then Dover delivered the final blows. Ashley Smith had a 22-yard rush to setup a two yard pass from Rennicker to Ryan Braglin. Rennicker then found Aaron Margo on the two point conversion play making the score 27-10. Ryan Braglin then intercepted Brown to give the offense the ball back on their own 46. The Tornadoes put together a time wasting seven play scoring drive capped off by Rennicker powering his way past the goal line from a yard out. Lisowski's point after was good to make it 34-10. Good pressure by the Braves limited Rennicker to 4-of-10 passing for 79 yards. He attempted only three passes in the second half. The two squads were evenly matched with Dover having 128 of offense and Indian Valley with 115 yards after the first half. However, the second half gave Dover a lopsided 217-62 yard advantage over the Braves. The Dover defense also limited powerful Indian Valley running backs Chase Ross and Josh Henry to 49 and 47 yards respectably. Patrino had another big night as the senior rushed for 153 yards on 23 attempts to lead the Dover offense. Smith contributed 71 yards on nine carries. "Indian Valley is a good football team and Scott Young is a good coach." said Ifft. "They kept the ball away from us in the first half. We were able to get untracked in the second half. Our defense rose up and got the ball back for us." comalog For more information, visit dhstornadoes.com |
