Dover Shuts Out Uhrichsville 20-0

PATRINO CARRIES DOVER TO ECOL VICTORY

Luke Patrino scored three touchdowns with in a four minute, 23 second period and gathered 369 all-purpose yards to lead Dover to a big 20-0 East Central Ohio League victory over the visiting Claymont Mustangs on Friday night.

Despite a soaked field, Patrino had 144 yards on 20 rushing attempts, a 63 yard touchdown reception, an 84 yard interception return, and three dazzling punt returns for a total of 78 yards.

"We've had a lot of good players since I've been here, but I don't know if we've had one as good as Luke," said Dover coach Dan Ifft. "He put us on his back tonight and took us to three touchdowns."

With the win, the Tornadoes remain undefeated in the ECOL at 3-0 and hold a 5-2 season record. It was the second consecutive loss for Claymont (2-2, 5-2) which began the season 5-0.

The game was nothing but a walk in the park for Dover as they were stuffed for a net loss of 27 yards on their first five possessions by a greatly enthused Claymont defense.

"Claymont's coaches had a great game plan," commented Ifft. "Their defensive scheme was beautiful. Our coaches also did a great job. The rain didn't hurt the offenses tonight; both teams played great defense."

Jono Kennedy gave the Tornado offense a spark when he ended a Claymont drive an intercepted on the 32-yardline. On Dover's first play Ryan Braglin scampered 15 yards and Patrino followed with a gain of 23. A few plays later, Patrino capped off the 68-yard drive with a 7-yard touchdown carry. The point extra was blocked but Dover held a 6-0 lead with 3:27 remaining in the first half.

Claymont was again driving for the end zone when Patrino made a leaping interception on the 16-yard line and used his swiftness and grace to take it 84 yards to paydirt. Dover's run conversion failed but the Tornadoes held a 12-0 advantage with just under a minute left before the half.

Less then a minute in to the third quarter, the Tornadoes put Claymont on thin ice when David Rennicker hooked up with Patrino for a 63-yard touchdown pass and the duo connected on the two point conversion to put the hosts up 20-0.

The potent Dover defense would break the ice by twice denying the Mustangs a touchdown after driving deep inside Dover territory during the fourth quarter. On the night, Dover sacked quarterback Derrick O'Hara five times totaling 35 yards in losses.

Dover will play host to the Meadowbrook Colts next Friday. Meadowbrook (1-6) fell to the ECOL co leading Indian Valley Braves 9-0.
