Defiance took over in the second half on homecoming night at Fred J.
Brown stadium in Defiance, handing Bath their second loss of the season
while improving to 5-1. The game started off with a surprising offensive explosion, but holding defenses. Both teams scored field goals to make it 3-3. A few minutes later, Eric Steyer raced around right end and outran the defenders for a 60-yard TD to put Defiance on top 10-3 and that's how the first quarter ended. Both teams gained big chunks of yards on the ground as the offensive lines played well. In the second quarter both teams drove for TDs, with each quarterback scoring on runs for his respective team. The half ended with Defiance on top 17-10. The second half started great for Bath. On the second play, Matt Good picked off an Austin Keel pass and ran for a TD to tie the game for Bath. The offensive fireworks continued as moments later on the kickoff, Kevin Suffel returned the ball 92 yards for a TD. The extra point was partially blocked and Defiance remained on top 23-17. Joe Butcher intercepted Bath QB Curtis Truesdale's pass on Bath's next possession, and Defiance immediately moved the ball efficiently as Keel scored on a 25 yard run to put Defiance up 29-17 after the 2 point conversion failed. Defiance finished the scoring in the 4th as Suffel scored on a reverse from 15 yards out. Suffel touched the ball twice in the game and scored both times. Bath's running game was working well in the first half. In the second half, however, Defiance started to control the line, and trailing, Bath decided to move to the passing game, which didn't work as well. Bath's Evan DeVoe, the leading rusher in the WBL, had only 110 yards, but he only carried 16 times. Steyer outdid his counterpart rushing for 151 yards on 22 carries. Keel also added 79 rushing yards on just 7 carries.
