Columbus DeSales defeats New Concord John Glenn 21-13

COLUMBUS DESALES 21 NEWCONCORD JOHN GLENN 13

ON a cool 58 degree November Friday night in Zanesville the Stallions from Columbus Desales high school took on a very gritty squad from little Newcord Ohio The Muskies of John Glenn high. On paper this looked like a total mismatch ,but as you all know the game is played on the field.

Desales would score the 1st time they had the ball, when the very talented De'Wayne Penn put a juke on defensive back Brent Riggle that left him standing in is tracks, and with a quick step and 20 yards later the Stallions had a 6-0 lead. The extra point was good by Jonathan Bednarek a 6-0 220-jr who has leg to hit from 45 yards out or more, and with 5.46 left in the opening quarter Desales had a 7-0 lead.

The next time Desales got the ball they would again move down field and not stop until Penn would go 3 yards for his 2nd touchdown and another extra point by Bednarek the Staillions had what looked like a safe lead.

John Glenn would get the ball late in the 1st quarter and looked to be going for a score, but on the play of the quarter hard running Darron Derwacter fumbled the ball and with no time remaining in the quarter the Stallions came up with it.

John Glenn defense would finally show up holding the high octane Stallions and forcing a punt .Things did not look good for the Muskies as they would have to start the drive from their own 7 yard line.

The offense that John Glenn was counting on showed up moving the ball all the way to the Desales 4 yard line, that's when Derwacter would atone for his fumble by scoring the 1st John Glenn td.The extra point attempt was good by Chad Donley, and with 7.07 left in the half the score all of the sudden was 14-7.

The Muskies defense would stand strong on the next drive led by a ferocious hit on Andrew Addington by Jamison Addy a 6-1 190 defensive back. Addington would not return.

The stallions defense would hold John Glenn on their next possession, and get a huge break when the punt would go 12 yards .Desales would not be able to take advantage of the break as the half would end with the score 14-7 in favor of the team from Columbus.

Desales would face a 4th and 1 and coach Jacoby would decide to go for it off a fake punt, but a flag before the play got off changed his mind.

John Glenn would get the ball back with 9.04 left in the 3rd and on the 1st play from scrimmage a bad exchange by the center and qb forced a fumble and Desales would pounce on it.

Penn who would play very little in the 2nd half would score his 3rd and Desales final touchdown from 4 yards out, and after the extra point the score was 21-7.

John Glenn now pressed into a passing situation and it didn't go well for them as quarterback Mike Pachuta would be picked off by Angelo Cua, and Desales would take over with 6.27 left in the 3r d. The Stallions again would face 4th and 1 and again off of a fake punt they would go for it making the yarding needed with little trouble. The Muskies would regroup and keep Desales from doing any more damage and the quarter would end with score remaining 21-7 in Desales favor.

Desales would get the ball back after another outstanding defensive effort. The offense would move the ball down field and again face 4th and 1 from the 2 yard line. The Stallions would elect to go for the firstdown but, a great stand by the small town school would hold the big city Stallions giving some hope to what only seconds ago looked like a sure losing situation.

Desales would bend but not break on defense and again come up with a turnover when Blake McAllister would pick off another Pachuta pass, and with 7.06 left in the game the fat lady was warming up her voice.

THE Muskies Defense would again hold Desales giving the offense yet another chance, but Pachuta would throw another interception, this time by Michael Freado, and with 2.42 left in the game it was all but over.

Desales trying to run the clock out playing the 2nd team backfield most of the 2nd half would give John Glenn one final chance when Tyler Gergley would cough the ball up,and with 1.20 left in the season John Glenn had some hope.

Moving the ball downfield without little trouble the Muskies would score with 15 seconds left when Pachuta would sneak in from a yard out making the score 21-13,and that's the way it would end.
