Article: CARROLL -- Two Justin Ross interceptions turned into two Justin Ross touchdowns in the second half, allowing the visiting Canal Winchester Indians to defeat the host Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs 13-9 Friday in a Mid-State League Buckeye Division game. Canal Winchester (4-0, 1-0 MSL Buckeye) had just 56 yards of total offense after the first half and was outgained by 64 yards, but was still able to hold Bloom-Carroll (2-2, 0-1 MSL Buckeye) to just three Nick Searle field goals of 35, 27 and 33 yards. The second half was a different story, though. After holding the ball just over six minutes in the first half, the Indians kept possession of the ball for more than 14 minutes in the second and racked up 164 of offense in the second half, all of it on the ground. But the Indians defense kept the pressure on the Bulldogs the entire second half and gave their offense superb field position. Ross picked off his first pass of the night on Bloom-Carroll's first possession of the second half, giving the Indians the ball at their own 42-yard line. A Bulldog personal foul penalty put the ball at the Bloom-Carroll 42, and Ross sprinted through an open hole in the middle of the line and into the end zone on the next play, cutting the Indian deficit to just three points with 4:25 left in the third quarter. Ross again picked off BC quarterback David Sicilian on the Bulldogs' next possession and returned the ball again to the Canal 42. Ross then carried six times out of nine plays on the ensuing drive, eventually plunging into the end zone from a yard out with 9:59 to play. Brian Saunders' extra-point gave Canal Winchester a four-point, 13-9 lead. The Bulldogs had three opportunities to score after that, but despite field position inside Indian territory on two of them, penalties and Canal's defensive pressure stopped all three drives. Ross led the Indian rushers with 85 yards on 16 carries with his two touchdowns and completed one pass to Ryan Gilliland for 32 yards. Michael Taylor also carried nine times for 51 yards and Greg Haynes 10 times for 49. Bloom-Carroll's Chaz Black led all rushers with 97 yards on 25 carries. Sicilian also carried nine times for 30 yards, but was 3-for-21 through the air for 30 yards with three interceptions and was sacked twice. Searle also added three receptions for 52 yards to go with his three field goals. Both teams return to MSL Buckeye play Friday, with Canal hosting the Hamilton Township Rangers and Bloom-Carroll traveling to Circleville to take on the Logan Elm Braves.
