Yappi.com writer It was nearly 11 months ago that Tom Stacy was not in a good mood when his eventual Division I state finalists surrendered 38 points to Canton McKinley in a distasteful 30-point loss to the Bulldogs at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Field at Fawcett Stadium. He was not in a good mood after Saturday when seven-time state playoff champion Cincinnati Moeller scored an early knockout of the 22-time Associated Press Division I state poll champions in the form of a powerful 48-14 display at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. No surprises to these two games. In both of Stacy’s regular season losses, Massillon didn’t get off like they wanted to. With Hamilton Chandler (AZ) making its way to 18,000-seat Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, the Tigers know they cannot afford to drop consecutive games in a row given that their schedule does not have the leeway they had last season. “We have to score first and set the tone for the game early as that will be very important,” Stacy said directly. “The big thing is that we have to take care of the football because if you turn it over, you won’t give yourself a chance to win the ball game.” “We have to get off like we want to.” If the Tigers can get on the scoreboard first, it will play a big role in the Massillon crowd being a factor. There isn’t a Stark County high school fan base better at creating delay of game penalties or false starts than the Massillon Tigers. “Our fans will be in it. Our fans to a good job of getting vocal and they are the best at that,” he said. Hamilton Chandler has won the last four out of five state championships in Arizona and Stacy had nothing but praise for head coach Steve Belles. “Belles has done a good job over there being in his second season. They haven’t missed a beat,” Stacy said. “They are very athletic and a solid team.” |
