Yappi.com writer CANTON--Footballs whizzed through the Saturday morning air at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Field at Fawcett Stadium. For the Federal League champion Canton McKinley Bulldogs, it was strictly business. Led by the 305 yards of passing from senior quarterback Dan Grimsley along with three touchdowns, the Bulldogs turned back the Leopards in a 21-7 decision in a 7-on-7 scrimmage. But their start to the day was a shaky one. An early 49-yard pass on Louisville's first play signaled that the Bulldogs might not be ready for what the Leopards had to offer. After the Bulldogs settled down, things slowed for Louisville's offense but their receivers showed their athletic talent to make catches throughout the game as their quarterbacks combined completed 31 passes on 45 attempts with a touchdown. The first 10 plays for McKinley didn't go well, with quarterback Dan Grimsley going 5 for 10 with an interception and only 30 yards. Eventually, the senior quarterback was able to get the McKinley offense going did well throughout the game as the Bulldogs quarterbacks finished with a combined 370 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tim Davis completed three passes on nine attempts for 18 yards. The McKinley defense also showed toughness shelling out some hard hits and forcing no attempts. When asked about his defense after the game, Head Coach Brian Cross said, "They could play better, but we're putting in a new defense." "The area his team needs to improve on the most is being a team." Footballs whizzed through the air at Fawcett Stadium but for the Bulldogs, it was strictly business as usual. |
