Yappi.com writer MASSILLON--Tom Stacy quickly burst onto the scene as the 25th head coach in Tigers history when he led them past the depressing feeling of two 4-6 seasons left by Rick Shepas. Kevin is well aware of the success that his 47-year-old father experienced last season. Now enrolled at the University of Akron, he is now a quarterbacks coach for the Tigers. He has an admiration of how successful his dad was and has had an ambition of following in his footsteps. "As fiery as he is, the players responded well to his expectations. I'm excited and happy about how far the program has come," Kevin Stacy said. "The structure to success was complete." Kevin knows about success himself. In 2004, he was the quarterback of the Northwest Indians. He led the Indians to the Ohio Division III state semifinals, where the team fell short of the state championship game with a loss to eventual two-time state champion Cleveland Benedictine. He attended Ashland with hopes of playing under his dad, who at the time was the offensive coordinator. Now he is reunited with his father as the quarterbacks coach. And he is thankful to have learned the rudiments of a sound quarterback through him. "Being at Northwest helped me greatly. I've been in the position as quarterback and now I want to use my advantages to help our quarterbacks," Kevin Stacy said. "My dad is my role model. I try to do whatever I can to please him. He's a very hard person to please but I love him and I have a lot of respect for him." Tom Stacy knows what it takes to be a sound quarterback. He must make error-free decisions while being able to read a defensive scheme. A quarterback also must have excellent footwork and those are the attributes that make a quarterback sound. Those assets are what Kevin Stacy will be looking for with his quarterbacks while having fun with his position and role. "I am proud to be a part of my dad's staff. I wanted to go to Ashland and play football. Once I got there, it became clear to me that due to my size and physical stature, I would be more effective as a football coach. I have always loved the game and now to coach under my Dad is going to be fun," he said. Kevin Stacy brings fresh motivation and leadership along with a career's worth of Quarterbacking excellence to the Tigers and is an exciting addition to the Coaching staff. |
