Yappi.com writer PERRY TWP.-The Canton McKinley black team used a 16-3 fourth-quarter rally to stun host Perry and win the Federal League freshman basketball championship 36-33 Saturday afternoon at Perry High School. Trailing 30-20 to start the fourth quarter, the top-seeded Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run and later assumed the lead on Ramon Brown's (Crenshaw Middle School) three-pointer from the left corner to give McKinley the lead for the first time since a 6-0 run to start the game. The win was not secured till the Panthers misfired on two three pointers, both hitting the front end of the rim. "It feels good to come in here and get the win against a team in hostile territory like Perry's," Brown said. "This is what we worked for all season." "We are the champions," head coach Lester Jones said sharply. "We worked hard for this and it's our time. To be down 10 and come back to win like we did, you cannot ask for more." "No one saw this coming. I didn't see it coming, our players didn't see it coming and our fans didn't see this coming," a teary-eyed Jamey McKenzie said after the game. "I hope our guys remember what this loss felt like and to never feel the pain of losing to Canton McKinley ever again." The Bulldogs finished the year 14-4 while Perry ended at 13-5. The loss was the first at home on the season for the Panthers. Marvin Johnson served as an assistant coach.
