Yappi.com writer CANTON-Another night at the office for the Canton McKinley Bulldogs usually means another game and paycheck. The Dave Hoover-corporation of Bulldogs arrive to work every night on time, punch in and by the time they punch out, another team is left in awe of what the Bulldogs have accomplished. Their paycheck comes in the form of another rout and tonight was no different as the Lake Blue Streaks were cashed out in a 79-48 defeat in front of a solid crowd at the Canton Memorial Field House. After a slow first quarter which saw the Bulldogs led by seven after one quarter, the defending Division I state kings hit the Blue Streaks with runs of 8-0 and 10-0 in the second quarter and the fireworks were beginning to fly for the red and black. "We came out a little sluggish at the start of the game early on but we picked it up and we played well the rest of the way," Canton McKinley senior center and Michigan State recruit Raymar Morgan said. The Bulldogs outscored the visitors 58-34 from the second quarter on. The Bulldogs improved their record to 11-2 while Lake is working with a 6-6 record so far on the season. "I thought our press in the second quarter started to work really well. I really thought our pressure got to them and it hurt their offense," Hoover said. The Blue Streaks copied what North Canton Hoover attempted last week against the Bulldogs but to lesser avail: stalling the basketball. The only difference is that the Bulldogs were heavily prepared for it this time around. "Well, I thought that they would play that to an extent," Hoover said. "When we created the pressure though, it took them out of what they wanted to do and the pressure was huge." Morgan continued his fierce scoring assault with a battery of dunks and open shots. He finished the evening with 25 points, with 19 coming in the second quarter, including a three-point play at the buzzer. Eric Coblentz was the only player in double figures for Lake with 27 points. Hoover was kind enough to throw the junior a bone after the game. "Coblentz is a very good player. Offensively, he attacks well and he is one of those players at the top of his game," Hoover said. "He executes and he involves the rest of his teammates. He is very good." With the Blue Streaks in the rearview mirror, the Bulldogs turn their sights to a Bedford Bearcats team that was in attendance tonight at the Field House. The two teams met last season in the Akron regional semifinals, with the Bulldogs winning that contest on their way to their second state championship in the program. Hoover knows that his pack of Bulldogs must be ready to face the challenge that head coach Everett Heard and his Bearcats will bring to the Canton Memorial Field House. "Bedford is a better team than last year and they are a very good team," the 11th year Canton McKinley mentor said. "They play well and it will be a challenge that we have to be ready for on Tuesday night." The Canton McKinley Bulldogs arrived on their nightshift, punched in, punched out, and it added up to another rout on their paycheck.
