CANTON-The motto of the Lake Blue Streaks football team is "Rock Em'." But for Marion Coblentz, the motto for his four sons that played for the Lake Blue Streaks basketball team is, "Shoot It."

The proud father of four cannot help but be overcome by glee for what his sons have accomplished not just in their playing careers but also in life as well.

Seth, Jared, and Zach Coblentz all earned their colors as Blue Streaks in the high school ranks. Zach and Seth continued their playing careers as Malone College Pioneers while Jared is currently at Bethel College, located in Indiana.

Now, another Coblentz is making noise on the hardwood.

Enter the youngest of the offspring, Eric Coblentz.

"You cannot be prouder than to be the father of four sons that are playing basketball and wow…it's phenomenal," Marion Coblentz said. "I am especially proud of Eric and his work ethic. He works so hard on the floor and in the classroom. He never gives up or lets up."

Eric is a testament to what hard work can bring. Inside the classroom, he carries a strong 3.0 grade point average. Such an average is enough to attract future recruiters to the Coblentz home. Being a junior, he has one more season of prep basketball to be played.

"He can compete in the MAC (Mid-American Conference) but I would like to see him go to a bigger Division I school," Marion said with a smile. "I feel that with all the hard work he has put into his efforts, he can be a really good player."

Coblentz provided the one shining moment of his junior season to date tonight. In a 79-48 loss to Division I state boss Canton McKinley, he led the Lake attack with a game high 27 points, two points better than soon-to-be Michigan State Spartan Raymar Morgan, who finished with 25.

When asked about this, Coblentz did not gloat over the accomplishment of outscoring the highly touted Morgan. He showed a modesty that has been expected of all Lake High School athletes on and off the floor.

"I just go out and do what I have to do to help us. Canton McKinley just killed us tonight, that's all," he said. "But this loss will not diminish our spirit as a team. We will practice harder and learn from this taste of defeat and be a better team for our next game. Lake never gives up. We play as a team, win or lose."

Canton McKinley senior forward Ricky Jackson could not help but be impressed as he approached the junior guard after the game.

"Hey man, nice job, let's do it again soon," he said to Coblentz as they both left the Field House.

Lake coach Tom McBride also left a good word as he departed the Field House.

"We will be back a better team," he said.

In football, Lake is out to "Rock Em." In basketball, Eric Coblentz is out to "Shoot It."
